At Aalberts advanced mechatronics, we are evolving by reorganizing ourselves around value streams rather than functions. In this organizational model, cross-functional teams work together from the moment a customer requests a product until the moment they receive it. This approach is helping us improve coordination between departments, keep up with growth in our industry, and better serve our customers.
We will explain you a bit about what each value stream is all about and how our employees are experiencing this innovative new way of working. Here we speak with Gido van der Velden, quality engineer at Mogema, about working within the value stream High Precision Assemblies (HPA).
What is your role/function within the value stream and what are your responsibilities?
As a Quality Engineer, I have several responsibilities. I evaluate measurement reports, handle internal complaints as well as complaints from customers, support the shop floor with repairs, advise on product and process adjustments, and improve and/or adjust processes based on bottlenecks found.
What makes working within the value stream so enjoyable?
HPA has many components, varying in size and complexity, all of which are small “projects” unto themselves. In addition, it is a department with people of many different ages, but where everyone gets along well. HPA can also be found everywhere in the company. For example, articles from the HPA value stream go into the products of the larger value streams, and as a result you know everyone in the company. No day is the same and that's what makes my job so much fun.
What is currently your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge is also the biggest fun factor; because there are many different products and therefore many projects, working in HPA requires a lot of “switching.” For someone like me, who likes variety and project-based work, this is both a challenge and a source of enjoyment.
What does working at Mogema mean to you?
It is a company from which a lot is expected. In my opinion, this means that everyone within Mogema has to go the extra mile to get the best out of themselves. Furthermore, Mogema is an upstanding employer and I don’t have to worry about them keeping their promises to me.
What would you say to someone interested in working within this value stream?
If you like varied and project-based work in which you are in contact with the entire company and are a supplier to the other value streams (because our components are used in all value streams), then HPA is a good department for you!
