At Aalberts advanced mechatronics, we are evolving by reorganizing ourselves around value streams rather than functions. In this organizational model, cross-functional teams work together from the moment a customer requests a product until the moment they receive it. This approach is helping us improve coordination between departments, keep up with growth in our industry, and better serve our customers.
In this series, we explain a bit about what each value stream is all about and how our employees are experiencing this innovative new way of working. Here we speak with Stephen Rietkerk, process engineer at Mogema, about working within the value stream Large Frame Steel (LFS).
What is your role within the value stream and what are your responsibilities?
My role is process engineer and I am focused on the optimization of our LFS production processes. These improvements can happen in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
What makes working within your value stream so enjoyable?
Each of our 14 products has a unique process, from welding, machining, machining, and nickel plating to cleanroom and assembly. All these departments make the product into what it ultimately needs to be and that is what makes working in this value stream so special.
What is currently your biggest challenge?
Due to volume reduction happening in the industry, our customer’s focus is more on the quality of products, which causes some different challenges. We have to stay on our toes and do everything we can to really meet customer requirements.
What does working at Mogema mean to you?
Mogema is a pleasant employer to work for, where you can develop yourself well.
What would you say to someone interested in working within this Value Stream?
There is a nice balance between experience on the shop floor and fresh energy in the office, as many new (young) people have been recruited recently. With our combination of experience and different insights from new staff, we try to make our products better and better every day.
