At Aalberts advanced mechatronics, we are evolving by reorganizing ourselves around value streams rather than functions. In this organizational model, cross-functional teams work together from the moment a customer requests a product until the moment they receive it. This approach is helping us improve coordination between departments, keep up with growth in our industry, and better serve our customers.

We will explain you a bit about what each value stream is all about and how our employees are experiencing this innovative new way of working. Here we speak with Mikki van Gennep, value stream manager at Lamers, about working within the value stream Modules & Cabinets.
What is your role within the value stream and what are your responsibilities?
My role
is quality engineer. Within the value stream, I am busy with problem solving
activities, such as running root cause events, making sure containments are
implemented, and communication with our customers about complaints.
What makes working within your value stream so enjoyable?
Contact
and collaboration with all disciplines within the value stream. Touching the
complete spectrum of production, from planning to engineering. Also, working
within the value stream makes it clear who contacts are, since the functions
are dedicated to the value stream.
What are recent challenges within the value stream?
To get
more control over the quality that we produce. What we see is that most of the
problems are caused in the beginning of product/process development. The
challenge is to improve the design of our products and processes to make them
less operator dependent, and insofar as they are operator dependent, ensuring that
the operators are instructed and trained well.
What does working at Lamers mean to you?
Working
