At Aalberts advanced mechatronics, we are evolving by reorganizing ourselves around value streams rather than functions. In this organizational model, cross-functional teams work together from the moment a customer requests a product until the moment they receive it. This approach is helping us improve coordination between departments, keep up with growth in our industry, and better serve our customers.
We will explain you a bit about what each value stream is all about and how our employees are experiencing this innovative new way of working. We speak with Ted Witteveen, value stream manager at Lamers, about working within the value stream Re-Use & Repair.
What does the Re-Use & Repair value stream do?
Our value stream is central to the creation of a circular supply chain.
We buy products back from our customers and ensure that we reuse them to the
maximum extent possible. This can be done by upgrading to a current product but
also by reusing parts within the product.
What makes the value stream Re-Use & Repair special?
We are in the position to set up and manage this process for all of Aalberts advanced mechatronics. In fact, we are one of the forerunners in this process (we are even ahead of the customer). But what really makes us special is the fact that we are very actively involved in extending the lifespan of our products and thereby actively contributing to reducing the CO2 and greenhouse gas footprint of our company.
What are recent challenges and opportunities within the value stream?
Our main challenge is
making the circular supply chain a basic process and starting point in business
operations. Everything is new for us and therefore needs to be thought of,
worked out, and implemented from scratch.
Can you share a success story where this value stream has made a difference for a customer?
In 2024 we were able to put about 300 modules through the Re-Use process and send them to our customer, thus making a significant contribution to CO2 reduction.
What are the upcoming plans for the value stream?
We plan to set up our full value stream in our location in Vessem and expand our Circular Supply Chain set-up within all Advanced mechatronics companies.
