At Aalberts advanced mechatronics, we are evolving by reorganizing ourselves around value streams rather than functions. In this organizational model, cross-functional teams work together from the moment a customer requests a product until the moment they receive it. This approach is helping us improve coordination between departments, keep up with growth in our industry, and better serve our customers.
In this series, we explain a bit about what each value stream is all about and how our employees are experiencing this innovative new way of working. Here we speak with Thomas Voellinger, robotics division manager at ISEL, about working within the value stream Semiconductor.

What is your role within the value stream and what are your responsibilities?

My role encompasses many different tasks, but I focus on operational business transactions and ensuring that all processes and operations in the robotics division run continuously and smoothly.

What makes working within your value stream so enjoyable?

We are clearly focused on customer value. Processes can be implemented more precisely and individually and are therefore fundamentally more efficient. Working in a cross-functional team improves communication, teamwork, and efficiency. With responsibility placed closer to the actual work, teams can make decisions more quickly, avoiding long approval chains. Tools like Kanban and flow metrics make work visible, so everyone understands progress and bottlenecks, reducing stress caused by uncertainty. And one of the most important points - value streams provide structure without heavy bureaucracy. Everyone knows their role and how it contributes to the whole.

What is your biggest challenge currently?

The transformation to a value stream-oriented company is already well underway, but not yet complete. Some positions in the company still need to either be clearly assigned to a value stream or remain within the company as shared services.

What does working at ISEL mean to you?

For me, working for ISEL is more than just a job. We are a great team, and I look forward to working in and for this team in the coming years. The acquisition by Aalberts has opened up new opportunities for us to further develop. I am looking forward to the future with ISEL and am proud of what we have achieved as a team so far.

What would you say to someone interested in working within this Value Stream?

I would say come and have a look. We have great plans to further develop and expand our business, a great team, and a lot of potential in our Semiconductor value stream.
